Groundbreaking Seminar on Wang Jingwei Debuts in Japan

wjwchinanewsEvents

On April 5, 2026, the Wang Jingwei Irrevocable Trust will host its first major seminar in Tokyo, Japan. Bringing together top scholars from China and Japan, this event will utilize firsthand historical materials to continue the exploration and reflection on East Asian history. It stands as a landmark event for modern history research in 2026.

We cordially invite friends interested in modern history, Sino-Japanese relations, and the history of thought to participate. In an era of global conflict and uncertainty, looking back at the ideological struggles of modern figures facing the choices of war and nationhood provides a broader perspective for understanding our present. The event will feature a comprehensive discussion session for direct interaction with the speakers, as well as a book display and signing for the Wang Jingwei & Modern China series. Register now!

The distinguished panel of speakers will deconstruct Wang Jingwei and his complex era from the perspectives of Sino-Japanese academic origins, ideological context, and international relations:

Seki Tomohide

Professor at Tsuda University, Japan, specializing in modern Chinese history and Sino-Japanese relations. He advocates for moving beyond traditional resistance narratives to provide a more nuanced interpretation of wartime history by analyzing the political concepts of occupied regimes, such as the Wang Jingwei regime. Publications include Political Concepts of Pro-Japanese Collaborators.

Eugene Chiu

A renowned expert in Chinese Intellectual History, Professor Chiu received his Ph.D. from Ohio State University (1984-1992). He served as a Research Fellow at University of California at Berkeley and Distinguished Professor at Tunghai University.
