On 6th April 2024, the Wang Jingwei Irrevocable Trust invited Dr. Augustine Pan from the University of Auckland in New Zealand to host a seminar at the Kishuan Literary Forest. The topic was “Wang Jingwei: Traitor or Founder of the Nationalist Government?”

The first of three episodes has just been released on YouTube. Dr. Augustine Pan, with a broad international perspective, lays the groundwork for readers to understand Wang Jingwei, explaining Wang’s relationships with the Beiyang, Guangzhou, and Nanjing governments, and their relevance to contemporary times. Regarding the Will of Sun Yat-sen, which was written by Wang Jingwei, it is still being revered in Taiwan and elsewhere:

Every one of us, whether a president, premier, principal, or any official attending weekly meetings or significant ceremonies, must recite the will of the founding father. It is a tradition that no one skips. After reciting it, we bow three times. In reality, it is not Sun Yat-sen’s will but Mr. Wang’s will, because at that time, Sun Yat-sen was no longer able to write. All the content and wording were the talent of Mr. Wang, showing how closely connected we are to him. AUGUSTINE PAN
In this first episode, Dr. Augustine Pan recounted Wang’s early involvement in the revolution up to the establishment of the Republic of China, as well as the intricate details of his dealings between Japan and the Soviet Union. Watch the entire lecture by clicking here.
