The third episode of “Simplicity in Complexity” introduces a Wang Jingwei poem entitled “New Year’s Eve’ composed in 1925, during the peace negotiations between the South and North alongside Sun Yat-sen. Sadly, the warlords were interested only in power struggle, not peace.
The poem uses scenery to express emotions. The winter snow scene brings out Wang Jingwei’s unswerving conviction to realize his vision. Although he lamented the current situation, he would not worry or be discouraged. Instead, he would actively seek to lessen the worries of the people. “New Year’s Eve” is a masterpiece that has been passed down to this day.GABRIEL CHAI
