Wang Jingwei’s granddaughter, Managing Editor of Wang Jingwei & Modern China Cindy Ho was interviewed on April 7, 2024 on the occasion of the publication of My Books, My Teacher The Diary of Wang Wenxing by the China Times reporter Evelyn Li. Recounting her mother’s recollection of her father Wang Jingwei, Ho talks about how the book reveals a lesser-known private side of Wang as a father and teacher. Read here and here for the interview.
“Traitor” or “founder”? Wang Jingwei is not only an important figure in modern Chinese history, criticisms of him are also very extreme. He was a poet, assassin, one of the four most handsome men in the Republic of China, he was also a successor of Sun Yat-sen’s. Textbooks on both side of the Strait label him as a hanjian, or traitor to the Han people. Wang’s granddaughter says, “It is up to others to judge whether he is good or not. I have no intention of rehabilitating him. To me, history is history, but he is my family!”EVELYN LI
