As reported by award-winning journalist Chen Kuo-wei, Wang Jingwei’s granddaughter Cindy Ho sent an open letter to the Nanjing Library in June 2024, requesting the return of “Anonymous Diary.” Researcher Cao Tianxiao’s finding that the Diary was, in fact, written by Wang Wenxing (1914-2023), Wang Jingwei’s eldest daughter, has been confirmed by Cindy Ho, Wang Wenxing’s daughter. The Diary records the social atmosphere during the early stages of the Sino-Japanese War from 1937 to 1938 and features annotations from Wang Jingwei himself. The Trust has compiled and published the Diary as My Books, My Teacher The Diary of Wang Wenxing and maintains, that according to Wang Wenxing’s will, these manuscripts should belong to the Trust. Legal scholar Sang Pu indicates that unless the Nanjing Library acquired the Diary through public channels with compensation, it should be returned to their rightful owner.
I have formally written to the Nanjing Library, requesting that they return the Diary to me. First, she was my mother, and it belonged to my mother. Secondly, as a Trustee, I have a responsibility—a significant responsibility—in this matter.CINDY HO
